HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

TRAIN, DON'T OVERTRAIN

Comment

TRAIN, DON'T OVERTRAIN

In our more-is-better world, it's easy to get caught in the overtraining trap. But when it comes to your workouts, it pays to do less. We're certainly not telling anyone to quit exercising, bu your workout schedule should have built-in rest days (and even weeks sometimes!). Not convinced? Here are nine reasons why you shouldn't go to the gym every single day.

1. Your muscles grow when you rest. Lifting weights creates tiny tears in your muscles that can only repair during rest. This repair process is what makes your muscles stronger than before. While it's important to work your muscles (hard!) to stimulate muscle-building proteins, it's equally as important to give your body enough time to recover (usually until you're no longer sore).

2. Overtraining can cause a weight-loss plateau. You know that working out too often or too intensely can lead to too much weight loss, but most people don't realize that it can also have the opposite effect. Thanks to your body's built-in protective mechanisms, overtraining can cause a plateau in your weight loss or even weight gain (unrelated to increased muscle mass).

3. Overtraining can mess with your menstrual cycle and cause amenorrhea, the absence of menstruation. Aunt Flo may not be your favorite visitor, but think of your period as the canary in the coal mine. Its presence indicates that your body thinks it's in good shape to grow a baby and its absence signifies a problem, especially if it disappears for three months or more. The drop in estrogen can also cause premature bone loss, making you even weaker and more susceptible to injury.

4. Trouble sleeping? You might be overtraining. Needing excessive sleep to fuel your workouts or being unable to sleep, even when you're very tired, are both indicators that something is wrong.

5. Overtraining can cause mood problems. Exercise can be a potent anti-depressant—studies show it works just as well as medication for mild depression. And we can attest to the mood-boosting power of the runner's high. But too much exercise can have the opposite effect, causing anxiety over workout schedules and depression from being chronically run down.

6. More exercise = bigger appetite. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to notice the link between exercise and hunger. The more you train, the more energy your body needs to sustain that exertion and the hungrier you get. Women often fear that cutting back on their cardio will make them gain weight, but that's not how it works. Your hunger usually decreases in proportion with your lighter workout schedule, so you won't feel the need to feed your body nearly as much.

7. You'll feel exhausted… all the time! We all love the great energy burst we get from an awesome workout, but more exercise does not always mean more energy. If your workouts are regularly making you crash in the afternoon or drag through your day because you're so tired and sore you can barely move, then you're doing too much. Listen to your body. If it says, "I'm so sore that I dread sitting down to go the bathroom," the intense Kettlebell session you have planned is not what it needs.

8. Overtraining often leads to burnout. In the end, life is about balance. We all have limited resources—time, energy, money, physical reserves—and spending too much of them on exercise can lead to burnout. It's better to commit to a sane program that fits in with your schedule and goals than to go all out and want to quit after one month. Exercise is a lifelong pursuit, and it should make you happy. Find a balance that works for you—your body and your life.

9. It eats up your limited free time. Medical problems aside, hitting the gym for lengthy workouts every day is a big time commitment. It's important to make time for other quality-of-life boosters too, such as hanging out with friends and family, learning something new, treating yourself tomanicure, or even catching up on your secret Real Housewives addiction (don't worry, we won't tell).

BEES ARE FRIENDS IN DANGER!

BEES ARE FRIENDS IN DANGER!

If bees didn’t exist in our world today, it would look like a very different place  and our lives wouldn’t be nearly the same either. These industrious insects have been around for roughly 125 million years (give or take 15 million years or so) and although bee numbers are sadly declining, the remaining survivors continue to act as invaluable resources to our planet and its other residents in numerous ways. Both plants and animals alike owe many thanks to the bees of the world but perhaps humans owe them the most appreciation. Our relationship with them began as early as the year 6000 BCE in Spain when humans began utilizing the fruits of their labor: since then, we’ve been taking advantage of their honey as a food source, medicine and form of currency, wax as a sealant and for candle-making, and of course, a bounty of actual fruits, vegetables and nuts. Bees truly are miraculous creatures.

Bees Benefit Plants by Assisting With their Propagation

Insect pollinators such as bees and flower-bearing plants are the perfect example of a symbiotic relationship in nature – two species, both have something the other needs which they then cooperatively share alike, thus benefiting both.

Bees need pollen and nectar for food and honey making; flowers need their pollen transported to other flowers, and then another flower’s pollen brought back to it in order to reproduce and make seeds. By merely traveling from flower to flower, bees effortlessly accomplish these needs of both parties.

Bees Benefit Humans by Providing Agricultural Services

The agricultural benefits of bees has been well documented; their pollination services to our agricultural crops are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat.

In fact, they are responsible for pollinating more than 90 of our traditionally favorite flowering crops such as apples, asparagus, avocados, blueberries, broccoli, celery, cherries, citrus crops, cranberries, cucumber, kiwis and melons, just to name a few.

An estimated 80 percent of food in grocery stores is available on the shelves, thanks to bee-pollinated crops.

Bees Benefit Other Animals (Humans Included) by Providing Food

Humans may have become the most efficient animals when it comes to obtaining honey (the 2013 honey crop in the U.S. had an estimated value of $317.1 million dollars) but plenty of other animal species also enjoy indulging in it.

Bears are perhaps the most notorious hive raiders, but other animals such as birds, bats, raccoons, skunks, opossums and countless insects are just a few of the other wild residents who will readily take advantage of the contents of a newly broken open hive. Many times not only will honey be eaten, but the energy and protein-packed bee larvae will be as well.

Bees Benefit All Living Things by Acting As Environmental Indicators

The mysterious decline in bee populations worldwide is a clear sign of something going awry in the environment.

One of the prime suspects of bee die-offs is a dangerous new group of pesticides called neonicotinoids. These pervasive killers are found in crops from corn to almonds, and in products around the average home like pet flea treatments and lawn care products. They are believed to damage the immune systems of bees, rendering them unusually susceptible to disease.

Like the crashing bird populations just a few decades previously when DDT as poisoning our ecosystems, the startling but steady world die-off of bees is a clear indicator of something unhealthy and unbalanced occurring in our environment.

The bees need help, and for so long we have relied on them for their incredible food-producing superpowers and the byproducts of their laborious work – it’s time to now help them. Stay tuned – an upcoming post will highlight things we all can do to give bees a well-deserved helping hand!

READY FOR DAY OF DEATH/DIA DE MUERTOS ?

Day of the Dead  (Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. It is acknowledged internationally in many other cultures. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.

It is particularly celebrated in Mexico where the day is a public holiday. Prior to Spanish colonization in the 16th century, the celebration took place at the beginning of summer. Gradually it was associated with October 31, November 1 and November 2 to coincide with the Christian triduum of AllhallowtideAll Saints' Eve, All Saints' Day, and All Souls' Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts. Visitors also leave possessions of the deceased at the graves.

MARY IN CHRISTIANITY

The gospels of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament describe Mary as a virgin and Christians believe that she conceived her son while a virgin by the Holy Spirit. The miraculous birth took place when she was already betrothed to Joseph and was awaiting the concluding rite of marriage, the formal home-taking ceremony. She married Joseph and accompanied him to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born.

In Christianity, Mary is commonly referred to as the Virgin Mary, in accordance with the belief that she conceived Jesus miraculously through the Holy Spirit without her husband's involvement. Among her many other names and titles are the Blessed Virgin Mary (often abbreviated to "BVM"), Saint Mary (occasionally), the Mother of God (primarily in Western Christianity), the Theotokos (primarily in Eastern Christianity), Our Lady (Medieval Italian: Madonna), and Queen of Heaven (Latin: Regina Coeli). Titles in use vary among Anglicans, Lutherans, Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Mormons, and other Christians.

In Islam, she is known as Maryam, mother of Isa. She is often referred to by the honorific title sayyidatuna, meaning "our lady"; this title is in parallel to sayyiduna ("our lord"), used for the prophets. A related term of endearment is S…

"THE WILD WEST"

The Western has been a popular genre of cinema since the very beginning of film, and successive generations of filmmakers have used the “Wild West” as a backdrop on which to explore the social issues of their respective eras. Many of the early silent films at the beginning of the 20th century were Westerns, the most famous being 1903’s The Great Train Robbery.During the 1920s, the Western film genre produced some of Hollywood’s first megastars such as Tom Mix and William S. Hart. These early Westerns were heavy on action, but light on plot. Their primary goal was to simply entertain.

INTERNATIONAL ARTIST DAY

Art has been an important part of the human experience for time out of mind, the first records of the world are not written in books, but are captured in paintings, sculptures, and music that helps to paint a picture of world lost to the past. Whether it’s revealing a style of dress worn in a period by the clothing worn in the painting, or the slight heresy’s hidden in some of the worlds most religious works, art can reveal a hidden or lost side of us to the present. International Artists Day honors those creative souls that will leave a record of today for the future that can’t be captured in history books. The anguish and joy of the human soul is portrayed through the haunting tones of a melody, the violence and fury caught in a photograph, or the serene gaze of a statue staring off into eternity.

The best way to celebrate International Artist Day is to support your local artists, most communities have a local art community that encompass the unique personality of both the community they live in, and the personality of that artist.

FBI Knew Adolf Hitler's Secret!!!

History tells that on 30th April 1945, Adolf Hitler killed himself in his underground bunker. Is this really true? Or did the soviets lie to the world? Evidence from the new declassified FBI documents shows that the government had information that Hitler was alive after World War II. He was supposedly living in the Andes Mountains.

Could Hitler have faked his own death? The release of the FBI documents clearly shows that Hitler’s suicide was perfectly faked. This is quite possible because he was the most hated man in the world at the time so he had to find a way to escape the war-struck Germany, for his own survival. What is more shocking is that the FBI knew all this but it was kept a secret.

GUSTAVO KLIMT- THE VIIRGINS (SLEEPING WOMEN)

Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter  and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession  movement. Klimt is noted for his paintings murals, sketches, and other works of art . Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism. In addition to his figurative works, which include allegories and portraits, he painted landscapes. Among the artists of the Vienna Secession, Klimt was the most influenced by Japanese art  and its methods. Early in his artistic career, he was a successful painter of architectural decorations in a conventional manner. As he developed a more personal style, his work was the subject of controversy that culminated when the paintings he completed around 1900 for the ceiling of the Great Hall of the University of Vienna  were criticized as pornographic. He subsequently accepted no more public commissions, but achieved a new success with the paintings of his "golden phase," many of which include gold leaf. Klimt's work was an important influence on his younger contemporary  Egon Shiele.

U.S. ARMY

The United States Army (USA) is the largest branch of the United States Armed Forces and performs land-based military operations. It is one of the seven uniformed services of the United States and is designated as the Army of the United States in the United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1 and United States Code, Title 10, Subtitle B, Chapter 301, Section 3001. As the largest and senior branch of the U.S. military, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed (14 June 1775) to fight the American Revolutionary War (1775–83)—before the U.S. was established as a country. After the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on 3 June 1784, to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The United States Army considers itself descended from the Continental Army, and dates its institutional inception from the origin of that armed force in 1775.

Today we’ve got some really interesting facts about America’s military. From a super, top secret Velcro to a super computer made out of PlayStation 3s, get ready for some facts we bet you didn’t know!!!

1. The US military has developed a super, top secret type of Velcro that is almost entirely silent. In fact, the ripping noise is reduced by about 95% percent to keep our troops safe. You can bet we won’t be getting this put on our uniforms for a while

2.  Stores on military bases around the United States don’t accept pennies as payment because they’re too heavy and not cost-effective to ship.

3. After World War II, the Department Of War was renamed the Department Of Defense.

4. In 2010, the United States government used over 1,700 PlayStation 3’s to build a super computer for the Department of Defense. Why? It was more cost efficient and green.

5. Our Department of Defense is the largest employer in the world at 3.2 million people. Who falls behind? Walmart is number 3!

6. Did you know that non-lubricated condoms can carry a liter of water? Did you know it’s part of the United States Military Standard Issue Parachute Pack Survival Kit? They’re not just distributed among the armed forces for safe sex, but as an emergency water canteen!

LETS TAKE A VIEW "BACK TO THE 70's"

The 1970's was a decade of the Gregorian calendar that began on January 1, 1970 and ended on December 31, 1979. In the 21st century, historians have increasingly portrayed the 1970's as a "pivot of change" in world history focusing especially on the economic upheavals.

In Asia, affairs regarding the Peoples Republic of China changed significantly following the recognition of the PRC by the United Nations, the death of Mao Zedong and the beginning of market liberalization by Mao's successors. Despite facing an oil crisis due to the OPEC embargo, the economy of Japan witnessed a large boom in this period, overtaking the economy of Western Germany to become the second-largest in the world. The United States withdrew its military forces from their previous involvement in the Vietnam War which had grown enormously unpopular. In 1979, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan which led to an ongoing war for ten years

The 1970"s saw an initial increase in violence in the Middle East as Egypt and Syria declared war on Israel, but in the late 1970s, the situation in the Middle East was fundamentally altered when Egypt signed the Egyptian-Israeli Peas Treaty. Anwar El Sadat, President of Egypt, was instrumental in the event and consequently became extremely unpopular in the Arab world and the wider Muslim world He was assassinated in 1981. Political tensions in Iran exploded with the Iranian Revolution in 1979 which overthrew the Pahlavi dynasty and established an Islamic republic of Iran under the leadership of the Ayatollah Khomeini.

Africa saw further in the decade, with Angola and Mozambique gaining their independence in 1975 from the Portuguese Empire after the restoration of democracy in Portugal.
