Chicano or Chicana is a chosen identity of Mexican-Americans in the United States who want to express a unique political, cultural and ethnic consciousness, and community pride. Chicanos are indigenous (non-Anglo) Mexican-Americans who resist the idea of assimilation beyond the shared Spanish language and the Catholic faith, and reject the post Aztec borders that divide the nation of Aztlán.
